Board of Education

Board of Education 4 year term –

joy  Joy Greenstein

Joy has lived in Brookfield for the past 12 years with her husband Matt, a CT State Police Detective, and their two children, Vanessa and Mason.  Vanessa, 10, is in 5 th grade and Mason, 8, is in 3 rd grade.  Joy always gives 100% to anything she is involved in, which is clearly shown as she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mount St. Mary College with a Masters Degree in Literacy. Joy has devoted the past 16 years of her professional career to the field of education.  Holding the position as an elementary educator, Joy’s job never ended at the sound of the bell. She is constantly looking for ways to help make each child grow to their potential in these constant changing times. Joy has worn many hats in the Cornwall district beyond her title as a teacher. For the past four years, Joy has been the Head Teacher at her school and was ‘Acting Principal’ when administration was at meetings or absent.
In this role she chaired meetings, organized needed support plans, managed, and helped run school-wide assessments, handled discipline, created schedules, and facilitated communication between personnel, students and parents.  Joy begins her journey as Elementary ELA Curriculum Coordinator this September. Joy is also a member of the District Data and School Inquiry Team, the Instructional Support Team, and is an active member of her union.  It is undoubtedly clear that Joy has a passion for education. With her passion of education and her experiences with all of her past and current titles Joy proves that she has the attributes that are needed to join the Board of Education. With each position she has held or volunteered for, Joy researched, questioned, and studied every avenue to explore in order to get the best for her community and the students. This drive will be exactly what our board needs to help this community provide the best they can for our students. Joy wants to advocate for our future, the children and students of Brookfield, by providing them with a quality education. It is evident from Joy’s work as a catechist at St. Joseph’s church, Brookfield Soccer Club Coach and Team Manager, Brookfield Lacrosse Club Coach, PTO volunteer and room parent for CES and HHES, and past Treasurer at HHES that she will be the best advocate for our students and our community.  Joy has also helped re-establish the Huck’s Paw Patch, the garden and outdoor classroom at HHES.  She created curriculum resource binders for each grade level for teachers to access hands-on lessons to use in the garden. She has also written and been awarded two large grants, totaling $5000 to help fund the garden. It is beyond clear that Joy is the right candidate for the position of 4 year term of representative on the Board of Education.
